The Government of Saskatchewan is pleased to announce the appointment of James Rybchuk, Q.C., as a judge of the Provincial Court for Melfort.

“Judge Rybchuk has practiced extensively in the civil and criminal law areas,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant said.  “His knowledge of the law combined with his experience as a criminal defence lawyer provides him with a solid foundation for this new role.”

Judge Rybchuk graduated from the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan in 1994 and was called to the Bar in 1995.  He has worked his entire career with McDougall Gauley law firm in Regina, where he became a partner in 2005.  He was honoured with a Queen’s Counsel designation in 2008.

While working at McDougall Gauley, he spent nearly ten years as an adjunct professor of law in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Regina.  In 2011, he obtained his Chartered Professional Director designation from the Directors College at McMaster University, where he has also since served as a faculty lecturer.

Throughout his law career, Judge Rybchuk has participated in numerous professional associations, serving on boards of many diverse organizations such as the Regina Airport Authority, Regina Regional Economic Development Authority and SaskEnergy.

Judge Rybchuk replaces Judge Barry Morgan, who is transferring to Saskatoon.
