ELECTRICAL UPGRADES TO SASKATCHEWAN PROVINCIAL PARKS CONTINUE

Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty announced today that 88 campsites will receive electrical service at Candle Lake Provincial Park and Greenwater Lake Provincial Park this year.

“Adding these electrical services will improve the visitor experience,” Doherty said.  “We achieved our goal of adding electricity to 1,000 campsites and we continue to add improvements throughout our parks.”

Electrical service will be added to two program gathering areas in Minowukaw Campground in Candle Lake Provincial Park.  The two gathering area sites will provide a platform for park interpretive staff to conduct their programs, featuring education on the environment and natural habitat of the park area.  As well electrical service will be expanded to 46 campsites.  Livewire Electric Ltd. of Shellbrook, Saskatchewan is the successful contractor for this work which brings the total to 225 electrical sites available at Candle Lake Provincial Park.

Eltek Supply & Service Inc. of Oxbow, Saskatchewan has been contracted to provide electrical service to 28 campsites in Cranberry Campground and 14 campsites in Aspen Grove Campground at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park bringing the number of electrical sites up to 186.  This project also involves providing roadway lighting and related site development in both campgrounds.

The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport is committed to protecting infrastructure investments that support economic and recreational activity and ensure the safety of the public who visit parks and recreation sites.

The Government of Saskatchewan is continuing to improve Saskatchewan’s provincial parks and in 2012 committed an additional $10 million over four years to supplement the previously-enhanced provincial parks capital budget.  Since 2008, government has invested almost $44 million to improve Saskatchewan’s provincial parks.
