OCTOBER 11, 2013

Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart proclaimed the week of October 13-19 as Veterinary Technician Week in Saskatchewan.

“Veterinary technicians play a vital role in the health and welfare of Saskatchewan’s livestock,” Stewart said.  “This proclamation recognizes their efforts and contributions to the overall success of our producers and agriculture industry.”

Today, there are more than 400 registered veterinary technologists working in commercial livestock operations, veterinary clinics and supply stores across the province.

“Veterinary technologists are a major part of Saskatchewan’s animal health system and can be found working in a diverse range of settings,” Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists President-Elect Nicole Wood said.  “From clinics and government departments to commercial livestock operations and pharmaceutical and supply companies, veterinary technologists provide their expertise at all levels of the value-chain.”

The proclamation of Veterinary Technician Week in Saskatchewan coincides with National Veterinary Technician Week observed across Canada and the United States.  In Saskatchewan, the week is sponsored by the Saskatchewan Association of Veterinary Technologists, which has been serving veterinary technicians in the province since 1984.
