Today, Prince Albert-Carlton MLA Darryl Hickie on behalf of Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, staff, representatives from the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division and guests to celebrate the grand opening of the brand new gymnasium for Carlton Comprehensive Public High School in Prince Albert.  The Government of Saskatchewan has committed nearly $8 million toward the development of this $12.2 million renovation and addition project.

The new gymnasium will give Carlton Comprehensive Public High School the space to offer an assortment of athletics programs, as well as provide seating for more than 1,200 people for sporting and public events.

“Schools act as the heart of the community by bringing people together, and Carlton Comprehensive Public High School is no exception,” Hickie said.  “This facility will positively impact the future success of our students and benefit the community for years to come.”

“Our state-of-the-art fitness complex will provide our students and community the opportunity to be involved in a variety of sports and activities,” Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division Director of Education Robert Bratvold said.  “The size of the gymnasium will provide the opportunity to showcase a higher level of athletics to our students and community as well as host additional provincial events.”

Since November 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $600 million toward school infrastructure, including 43 major school capital projects and many additional smaller school capital projects across the province.
